This restaurant, in the centre of Nantes, is on a street full of creperies. I wasn’t really in the mood for crepes, so when we spotted this little eatery we took the plunge.
Ambiance – 3
The restaurant is nestled in a side street just round the corner from an impressive looking church. (Unfortunately the church has an impressive facade but inside was really dull.) The restaurant is quite compact inside, although there is extra seating through the back and upstairs which we didn’t get to see.
The decor is more bar than restaurant with old currency notes pinned to the walls. Lots of dark wood everywhere. There are copper pennies resting on the bricks of the uneven walls. The chairs are cheap supermarket versions with woven seats and rickety legs.
Food/Wine Selection – 4
As this is a moules restaurant you can guess what is the main item on the menu. We both had the set lunch menu – mine was 14.50, menu belge, with a choice of 2 starters, moules marine, a glass of wine or beer and a coffee. Adrian had the 16.00 menu cubain with a choice of 2 different starters, moules done in a choice of sauces, a glass of beer or wine and coffee.
There is an a la carte menu which has various moules dishes with different sauces.
Food Presentation – 3
I had a saumon terrine for starter with the option of having it heated. It looked and tasted good. Adrian had gambas – 5 of them, the same as the starter off the a la carte menu for 11.00 euros. The moules came in a bowl with a huge plate of chips. Both of our moules were overcooked and slightly rubbery tasting. Shame.
I had a glass of red wine – from a box and Adrian had a beer. The coffee was average.
Staff – 5
We were welcomed in by a smiling face and given an option of where to sit. The meal arrived in good time and we didn’t have to wait for anything.
Price – 5
Our meal came to 30.50 euros which is a good price for what was on offer. Unfortunately, it seemed expensive at the time, as both our moules were overcooked.
I am not sure that I would go back to this restaurant and I would not recommend it to my family.
